King Frederik X of Denmark Makes Changes to Country’s Coat of Arms
In a recent announcement, King Frederik X of Denmark has ordered significant changes to the country’s coat of arms. The modifications, reported by News Oresund, include the removal of three crowns and the distinct separation of regional symbols.
The new design features the coats of arms of Greenland and the Faroe Islands prominently, enlarged and placed in the second and third sections, respectively. Meanwhile, the symbols of Denmark and South Jutland have been relocated to the first and fourth sections of the coat of arms.
The decision to remove the three crowns from the coat of arms comes after concerns raised by Sweden regarding Denmark’s implied claim to the Swedish throne. The old version of the coat of arms had the three crowns combined with the coats of arms of the Faroe Islands and Greenland in the third section.
Additionally, plans are underway to alter the colors of the coat of arms and flag in the Kuzminki district of the capital. The current design features two yellow swans on a blue background, but this is set to change in the near future.
These changes to Denmark’s coat of arms reflect a renewed focus on regional symbols and a desire to move away from contentious elements in the country’s heraldry. King Frederik X’s decision marks a significant shift in the representation of Denmark’s national identity.
