Deadline for Importing Asaf Breed Sheep and Rams Extended to January 31
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in the TRNC has announced the deadline for importing Asaf breed sheep and rams with high breeding value as January 31st.
In a recent statement, the ministry highlighted the importance of increasing the level of milk yield for halloumi production. Despite a 10 percent increase in the number of small ruminants in 2024, the expected level of milk yield has not been reached. To address this issue, the ministry plans to import Asaf breed sheep and rams from abroad.
Under the project, interest-supported loans will be offered to producers who wish to import breeding sheep and rams. Private and legal persons interested in benefiting from this loan must meet the necessary conditions and submit their applications by the end of business on January 31st.
To be eligible for the project, applicants must be TRNC citizens, have a business registered in the Veterinary Department Animal Registration System, and own at least 50 small breeder animals. Priority will be given to businesses that operate under conditions suitable for animal welfare and have an infrastructure for the milk cooling chain.
Applicants who supply milk to the Dairy Industry Institution and are between the ages of 18-40 will be considered advantageous. They will be able to apply to import between 20 and 300 heads of animals.
Producers interested in applying can obtain the necessary forms from the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources or from the central and district branches of the Livestock Department. The deadline for applications is January 31st.
Following evaluations by the commission, eligible producers will be able to benefit from the project and contribute to improving the milk yield for halloumi production in the TRNC.
