The UN Report Highlights Israeli Attacks on Gaza Strip
The latest report from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) sheds light on the dire situation in the Gaza Strip. The report details the devastating impact of Israeli attacks on civilians, causing casualties, displacement, and extensive damage to infrastructure.
According to the report, the Israeli army’s ground attacks have continued to escalate in various areas of the Gaza Strip, including Gaza city, the east of Rafah in the south, and around the Rafah and Kerem Abu Salim Border Gates. UNRWA employees have also been increasingly targeted, with the number of casualties reaching 189 since October 7, 2023.
The report also highlights the challenges faced by humanitarian aid organizations in accessing vulnerable populations in Gaza, particularly in the north of the region. Despite the growing need for assistance, Israeli authorities have hindered numerous aid efforts. Only 9 out of 32 planned humanitarian missions were facilitated in the north of Gaza between May 1-9, with several others either rejected, blocked, or canceled due to logistical issues.
In the south of Gaza, similar obstacles have been reported, with only a fraction of aid efforts being successfully coordinated. The ongoing military operation in Rafah has further impacted the delivery of critical humanitarian supplies to Gaza, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Since October 7, Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of 35,173 Palestinians, including thousands of children and women, while over 79,000 have been injured. The destruction of civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and educational institutions, has also hampered relief efforts and left thousands trapped under the rubble.
The UN report underscores the urgent need for a ceasefire and a lasting resolution to the conflict in order to prevent further loss of life and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
