Debrecen Battery Plant Project Hits Major Milestone

China’s EVE Power has received an environmental permit for a new battery plant in Debrecen, as reported by local news portal haon.hu. The company will implement special technology for reclaiming wastewater at the plant, reducing the use of potable water in the manufacturing process.

EVE Power announced the construction of the HUF 400 billion plant in the spring of 2023, with completion expected by the end of 2025 and production scheduled to begin in 2026. The plant will supply batteries to a factory being built by German car manufacturer BMW in Debrecen.

In another development, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó stated that Kecskemét and Hungary as a whole will greatly benefit from a collaboration with Mercedes. Following a meeting with executives of the German car maker in Budapest, Szijjártó emphasized the importance of the partnership with Mercedes in driving economic growth and the transition to electromobility. He noted that Mercedes continues to invest in its plant in Kecskemét, bringing advanced automotive industry technology to Hungary and boosting the country’s competitiveness.

The collaboration between Hungary and Mercedes is seen as a key component in shaping a modern economy and fostering innovation in the automotive industry. This partnership will further solidify Hungary’s position as a hub for cutting-edge technology and manufacturing.
