Defendant Facing 3 Years in Prison for Allegedly Throwing “Smurfette” from 4th Floor

The trial of Elanur P., the defendant accused of injuring a cat named “Şirine” by kicking her and throwing her from the 4th floor in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, has continued with new developments.
During the hearing at the Küçükçekmece 23rd Criminal Court of First Instance, complainant Fatma Aydın, party lawyers, and lawyers from the Istanbul Bar Association Animal Rights Center were present.
Fatma Aydın, the complainant, explained that she had left her cat “Sirine” in the care of her neighbor while she was at work. She recounted how the cat had wandered onto the defendant’s balcony, causing a flower pot to fall over. In a shocking turn of events, the defendant allegedly kicked the cat in the corridor and then threw her off the balcony into the garden, where there were no cameras to capture the act.
“I found my cat in the garden among the trees, with its body temperature dropping. He was in intensive care for 72 hours. I am complaining,” said Aydın.
The complainant’s lawyer, Hafize Hilal Koçak, called for the defendant to be punished to the fullest extent for giving multiple contradictory statements.
The court has sent the file to the prosecutor’s office for further investigation and postponed the hearing to July 2.
According to the indictment prepared by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, Elanur P., an associate professor at a private university, could face imprisonment from 6 months to 3 years for the alleged act of “torturing or cruel treatment of animals”.
Despite the serious injuries sustained, it has been reported that “Sirine” is now out of life-threatening danger after receiving treatment for several days. The case continues to attract attention as animal rights advocates demand justice for the innocent cat.
