Defendants face judge in Istanbul musician murder case

The first hearing of the case involving the death of musician Umut Emre Aytekin in a restaurant in Güngören, Istanbul, took place recently. Two defendants are being tried for life imprisonment for the alleged deliberate killing of Aytekin. In the hearing, defendant Hayrettin Öztaşçı recounted the events leading up to Aytekin’s death, stating that Aytekin had sworn at them and that he punched him, causing Aytekin to fall to the ground. Defendant Ceyhun Tuzcu admitted to kicking Aytekin while he was on the ground but claimed he did not expect him to die.
