Defendants in 6-Year-Old Bride Scandal to Face Judge Again on May 6

The case of the alleged marriage of a 6-year-old girl, identified as HKG, in Istanbul has taken a new turn with recent developments.

During the first hearing on January 30, a publication ban and confidentiality were imposed on the trial. In the second hearing, it was reported by the Forensic Medicine Institute that the mental health of the victim, HKG, had deteriorated. As a result, the public prosecutor demanded punishment for the defendants involved in the case.

On October 23, 2023, the Anatolian 2nd High Criminal Court handed down sentences in the case. Kadir İstekli was sentenced to 30 years in prison, Yusuf Ziya Gümüşel to 20 years, and Fatima Gümüşel to 16 years and 8 months in prison.

However, after the prison sentences were overturned, the case was sent back to the Anatolian 2nd High Criminal Court. A new hearing has been scheduled for May 6 at 10:00.

In the previous ruling, it was determined that Kadir İstekli should have received separate sentences for different crimes committed between 2004-2013 and 2020. Additionally, the sentences for Fatima Gümüşel and Yusuf Ziya Gümüşel were deemed inadequate, considering their roles as parents.

Following the decision, appeals were made by various parties involved in the case, which resulted in the overturning of the previous judgment.

The legal proceedings continue as the defendants prepare to appear before the judge once again on May 6. Stay updated on the latest developments by following NTV on social media.
