Defendants in Erzincan Mining Disaster Speak Out: Grave Mistakes Revealed in Statements
Another mining disaster has occurred in the Eastern Region and here is what we know. An investigation is underway after an area in a mine in the Eastern Region experienced dangerous movement and then completely collapsed. As a result of this disaster, 2 radars and 2 robotic machines are missing, causing a great deal of concern. It is advisable to avoid this area until the investigation is complete.
What seems to have happened, according to the testimony of Hüseyin Üstündağ, the Okitproses Manager at the mining company, is that the project design by a foreign company called GRE was left to their internal project office to oversee. The company’s main guidance for the region is leaching, but subcontracted workers carry out much of the work in the area. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, 2 radars were missing at the same time. Thankfully, no overloading was done in the area, and no one was hurt during the incident.
Additionally, a deposition from Kenan Öz, the senior supervisor of the pile, mentioned that cracks were noticed during the laying process, and when he came to inspect, he saw the dangerous slip. He immediately ordered an evacuation of the area. Thankfully, the area was evacuated and the workers and managers were kept safe.
Final testimony was given by a Canadian engineer involved in the operations of the mine. He reports that he informed the headquarters of the cracks but received no response in return. And finally, another manager present at the time of the incident reported that he had no technical knowledge of the leaching area, and that his expertise was in a separate field entirely.
