Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün: Guardians of the Blue Homeland Conquer the Sea
Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün announced the launch of the MİLGEM İSTİF Class frigates, İZMİR and İZMİT, on his social media account. These frigates, which were built in partnership with TAİS and STM under the coordination of the Defense Industry Presidency, mark a significant milestone in Turkey’s defense capabilities.
Görgün emphasized that the TCG İSTANBUL (F-515) frigate, previously delivered, is equipped with over 80 percent local production and high technology. These national ships not only symbolize the strength and determination of the Turkish nation in the world’s seas but also honor the legacy of legendary sailors such as Çaka Bey, Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha, Turgut Reis, and Oruç Reis.
With a focus on protecting the Blue Homeland, these frigates will enhance Turkey’s naval power and defense capabilities. Görgün highlighted the importance of national engineering know-how in reinforcing independence at sea and elevating defense readiness to the next level.
Görgün expressed gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his unwavering support for Turkey’s defense industry. He also thanked all companies, shipyards, and subcontractors involved in the project, emphasizing their invaluable contributions to the success of the program. Görgün acknowledged the dedication of Defense Industries personnel, as well as the support from the Ministry of National Defense and Naval Forces Command.
