Dem Party Shows Support for Syria Agreement: A Positive Beginning
The Syrian Presidency announced a significant development as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have now joined the Syrian Army. This move comes after Syrian President Ahmed Şara and Ferhad Abdi Şahin signed an agreement emphasizing the country’s territorial integrity and rejecting any attempts to divide it.
The agreement, which is being closely monitored by neighboring Turkey, has been hailed as a crucial step towards building a democratic Syria. Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, the DEM Party Group Vice President, described it as one of the most important strides in the construction of a democratic Syria.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament Gate, Koçyiğit stated, “This agreement may seem like a pact between the Kurds and the Damascus administration, but it signifies a crucial beginning in terms of ensuring the participation of all Syrian peoples in the country’s governance and securing their rights under the constitution.”
Highlighting the significance of this development for Syrian democracy, Koçyiğit remarked, “This is a strong step that can potentially usher in a new era. However, we are aware that there is still a long way to go.” She also expressed optimism that the agreement could lead to discussions about the future role of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Syria.
