Demolition of the Historical Walls in Kaleiçi

The historical walls in the Kaleiçi region of Antalya, Turkey have suffered major damage due to heavy rain. The collapse of the walls was a result of two days of intense rain, causing a landslide in some parts of the city walls, while in other parts, the wall stones rolled into the region of Kaleiçi.
The heavy rain also led to a large gap forming under a business located above the area where the collapse occurred. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries or loss of life.
Local authorities have taken measures to ensure the safety of the area, with the Muratpaşa Municipality closing off the affected area with a security strip. However, the damage to the historical walls is a significant loss for the region.
The incident is a stark reminder of the impact of extreme weather conditions and the importance of safeguarding historical sites against natural disasters. Local authorities and preservationists will need to work together to assess the damage and come up with a plan for reconstruction and restoration efforts in order to preserve the historical significance of the walls in the Kaleiçi region.
