Iranian Maritime Economy Forum Focuses on International Trade and Transport Links

The Iranian Maritime Economy Forum was held in Tehran on February 12, 2023, and saw the participation of representatives from the «Turkmendenizderyayollary» Agency, who were invited by the Iranian side.

The forum brought together representatives from transport companies, government agencies, and business groups in Iran to discuss the development of international trade and transport links between countries in the region. The focus was on the North-South and West-East corridors, and three specific routes were identified: Europe – Russia – Azerbaijan – Iran – India; Russia – Kazakhstan – Turkmenistan – Iran – India; and Russia – Iran–India transport corridors.

Meetings were also held with representatives of the Port and Maritime Organization of Iran, during which the seaport system of Turkmenistan, the national merchant fleet, and shipbuilding capabilities were presented. Discussions also touched on the potential for providing benefits to foreign companies in Iran’s northern ports, such as Enzeli, Amirabad, and Nushehir.

Additionally, separate round-table talks were conducted with the chief advisor of the company Behine Tarabar Azhur M.B. Akdam, who introduced services for container transportation on the Caspian Sea and cargo transportation on the Amirabad-Baku route. There was an expressed desire to establish close cooperation in the future, with the Turkmen delegation planning to visit the port of Amirabad.

The forum provided a platform for productive discussions on enhancing international trade and transport links in the region, and set the stage for potential collaboration and partnerships between Iran and its neighboring countries.
