Minister of Health Dr. Hakan Dinçyürek Announces Launch of HPV Vaccine in Turkey
In a recent statement, Minister of Health Dr. Hakan Dinçyürek announced a significant step forward in preventive medicine for women in Turkey. As part of January being recognized as “Cervical Cancer Awareness Month”, Minister Dinçyürek revealed that the HPV vaccine will be introduced in the country for the first time in 2025. This vaccine will be administered routinely within the Ministry of Health, with the aim of preventing cervical cancer, a disease that is largely preventable.
Cervical cancer, also known as cervical cancer, occurs when there are abnormal changes in the cells of the lower part of the uterus. With early diagnosis, this type of cancer is highly treatable. Minister Dinçyürek stressed the importance of raising awareness about cervical cancer and encouraging women to undergo regular health check-ups.
Dinçyürek emphasized that early diagnosis and regular screenings are essential in preventing cervical cancer. He urged all women to undergo regular Pap Smear and HPV tests to detect any abnormalities early on.
HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is a major factor in the development of cervical cancer. This sexually transmitted virus can cause changes in the cervix that may lead to cancer. According to the World Health Organization, cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women, following breast, colon, and lung cancers. However, with early diagnosis and preventive measures, the incidence of cervical cancer can be significantly reduced.
It is important to note that cervical cancer often does not present symptoms in the early stages. However, women who experience unusual symptoms such as increased discharge, bleeding during or after sexual intercourse, or pain in the pelvic area should consult a physician for further evaluation.
The Ministry of Health provides free screening and early detection services for cervical cancer across the country. Pap Smear tests and early diagnosis services are available free of charge at various health centers, including Nicosia Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Early Diagnosis Center and Guzelyurt Health Center.
Minister Dinçyürek emphasized the crucial role that these services play in the fight against cancer and urged all women to take advantage of free screening tests. By raising awareness, promoting regular check-ups, and providing access to preventive measures, the Ministry of Health aims to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer in Turkey.
