Director İlker Canikligil Arrested Following Controversial Statements
Director İlker Canikligil has recently found himself in hot water after making controversial statements on social media and YouTube. Canikligil explained the ‘Order 66’ (Bulk Massacre) application in Star Wars, where he referred to a segment he calls the ‘sub-class.’ In a post on his social media account, Canikligil stated, “Political Islam should be ignored and the prophet should be destroyed. There is no side to be taken seriously.” These remarks led to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launching an investigation into Canikligil for publicly committing crimes of ‘publicly committing crime’ and ‘public hatred and hostility incitement.’
Following the investigation, Canikligil was detained and later arrested. The Prosecutor’s Office stated that Canikligil had targeted certain segments of society and incited violence against them. Canikligil was ultimately arrested and is awaiting further legal proceedings.
