Disaster Looms: Land Attack on Refah
Lockyear, a visitor to the Gaza Strip currently facing severe attacks from Israel, has shared alarming news on social media.
In a recent post, Lockyear expressed his concern over a potential ground attack on Rafah, emphasizing that such an action would be catastrophic and should be prevented at all costs.
The situation in Gaza has reached a critical point, with Israel’s ongoing attacks targeting civilian areas, hospitals, schools, and shelters where displaced Palestinians have sought refuge since October 7, 2023. In addition to the violence, the Israeli army has also blocked the entry of humanitarian aid, pushing the region’s 2.3 million residents to the brink of famine.
International organizations, including the United Nations, are urgently calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and an increase in humanitarian aid delivery. The lack of medical supplies and functioning hospitals has led to the spread of diseases caused by hunger, thirst, and poor hygiene conditions.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) recently issued a statement highlighting the widespread hunger crisis in Gaza, a result of Israel’s 17-year siege on the region.
According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health in Gaza, 27 individuals have died from malnutrition and dehydration, a direct consequence of Israel’s blockade on aid deliveries. Overall, the ongoing attacks by Israel have resulted in the deaths of 31,726 Palestinians, including thousands of children and women, with an additional 73,792 individuals sustaining injuries.
As the violence continues, efforts to locate and rescue those trapped under rubble are hindered, while crucial civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and schools serving as shelters, are being destroyed.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with urgent action needed to address the humanitarian crisis and prevent further loss of life.
