Discussion of Bilateral Cooperation with Cyprus, Iraq, and India
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, recently engaged in discussions with officials from the Republic of Cyprus, the Republic of Iraq, and the Republic of India during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly on September 27, 2024.
Firstly, Minister Meredov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Constantinos Kombos, to evaluate the current level of cooperation between the two countries. The discussions focused on enhancing political and diplomatic relations, as well as fostering dialogue between the foreign ministries. They also explored opportunities for collaboration in trade, economics, science, and education, highlighting potential academic exchanges and training programs in Cyprus. Both parties expressed readiness to strengthen bilateral ties through the development of Memorandums of Understanding in various spheres.
Additionally, Minister Meredov held talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, Fuad Mohammed Hussein, affirming both countries’ commitment to expanding relations in political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian domains. They deliberated on Turkmen natural gas supplies to Iraq, investment cooperation, and regional issues.
Lastly, Minister Meredov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, to discuss bilateral trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation. They emphasized the importance of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Indian Commission on various cooperation fronts and the significance of projects like the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline in regional development. Furthermore, they exchanged views on the upcoming meeting between foreign affairs agencies in the “Central Asia + India” format.
Overall, these discussions reflect Turkmenistan’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Cyprus, Iraq, and India across a range of sectors and regional issues.
