
Disturbing Grieving Families is Always Unacceptable

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has taken action in response to a tragic incident at the Kartalkaya Ski Center, where a hotel caught fire resulting in the loss of multiple lives. It has been reported that the families of the victims have been targeted by individuals using disrespectful and mocking language.
An investigation has been launched by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the unlawful gathering of personal data, insulting the memory of the deceased, and inciting hatred and hostility on social media. The Istanbul Police Department Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate has been tasked with identifying the suspects involved in these actions.
The Prosecutor’s Office has also identified misleading and criminal posts on social media platforms related to the fire incident at the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center, where 78 individuals tragically lost their lives. The investigation into the dissemination of false information is ongoing, with efforts being made to apprehend those responsible.
Additionally, a separate investigation has been initiated into reports that the families of the victims were contacted and harassed over the phone. Prosecutor Tunç emphasized that it is unacceptable to disturb grieving families and use inappropriate language in such a sensitive time. The Istanbul and Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Offices have vowed to conduct thorough investigations into these allegations.
It is imperative to show respect and empathy towards the families affected by the fire disaster, and any behavior that adds further distress to their already difficult situation will not be tolerated. The authorities are committed to ensuring that justice is served and those responsible for their actions will be held accountable.
