Diyarbakır Mother Carries on Son’s Watch During the Feast
Families Continue Sit-In Protest in Diyarbakir
The ongoing sit-in protest initiated by families in Diyarbakir, who are demanding the return of their sons who were allegedly kidnapped by members of the HDP, has now reached its 2037th day. These families are determined to continue their vigil, even during the holiday season, as they anxiously await news about their missing children.
One of the mothers, Sariye Tokay, has been camping outside the old HDP provincial building with a photo of her son in hand. She revealed that her son was taken by HDP members 14 years ago, and she is still waiting for his return. Tokay expressed her longing for her son, saying, “If my son were to come back now, we would celebrate a double feast. We hope to reunite with our sons as parents and celebrate the holiday together. It’s been very hard not having our sons with us.”
Another father, Nurettin, spoke about his son Yusuf, who is still missing. He urged his son to surrender to the security forces and come back home, stating, “We are spending the holidays in this tent, waiting for you. If my son returns, we will celebrate every day. I keep watching the path, hoping for my son’s safe return.”
These families are determined to continue their protest until their sons are safely returned to them. Their heartfelt pleas and unwavering determination serve as a powerful reminder of the enduring love and hope that these parents hold for their missing children.
