Doctor and His Wife Suspended After Insulting Nurse over Political Views
A midwife nurse, Tülay B., and a family physician, İhsan Ö., along with his nurse wife, Aysel Ö., were involved in an argument at Eyyübiye Family Health Center No. 15 in Şanlıurfa, Turkey. The quarrel started as a result of their voting for different political parties. During the disagreement, İhsan Ö. allegedly attacked and insulted Tülay B. Aysel Ö. also joined in and insulted the nurse.
Following a complaint from Tülay B., the Provincial Health Directorate launched an administrative investigation. The investigation led to the suspension of İhsan Ö. and Aysel Ö.’s contracts for two months. A judicial investigation was also initiated against the couple for their behavior.
Tülay B. reported that İhsan Ö. threatened her, saying, “You are rude; I will show you your day. You should not mention my name.” Aysel Ö. reportedly said, “You went and voted for the rapists. I hope they will rape you too. We will not employ you in this health center. Go from this health center.”
The incident has raised concerns about the politicization of healthcare services and the need for more tolerant and respectful attitudes among medical personnel. It is hoped that the suspension and investigation will send a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated in the healthcare profession.
