Moments of horror unfolded in a hospital in Niğde, Turkey, as a neurosurgeon was viciously attacked by a patient with a knife. The doctor, identified as Dr. Burak Yürük, was injured in the attack but is reported to be in good health.

The incident took place at the Ömer Halisdemir University Training and Research Hospital, where Dr. Yürük was working in the Brain and Nerve Surgery Service. The patient, identified only as TS, had previously undergone a surgery performed by Dr. Yürük for reasons that were not disclosed. A dispute between the doctor and the patient escalated into a physical altercation, during which TS stabbed Dr. Yürük multiple times.

Police were alerted to the scene and Dr. Yürük was quickly taken to the emergency department for medical treatment. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening. The suspect is currently in police custody as the investigation unfolds.

Governor Cahit Çelik of Niğde visited the hospital and spoke to the press about the incident. He expressed his relief that Dr. Yürük’s condition was stable and condemned the violent attack. Governor Çelik emphasized the importance of respecting and supporting healthcare workers, urging citizens to seek medical help instead of resorting to violence.

Violence against healthcare professionals is a serious issue that must be addressed. The safety and well-being of those who dedicate their lives to saving others should be a top priority. Our thoughts are with Dr. Yürük and we wish him a speedy recovery.
