Dove Makes Nest in Traffic Light: A Unique Sight in Kayapınar
In an unusual turn of events, a dove has made a nest in the yellow part of a traffic light that was left open for repair. The incident took place at the junction of Diclekent Boulevard in the Kayapınar district. The Transportation and Coordination Center (UKOME) teams, who were responsible for repairing the broken light, decided to leave the nest undisturbed once they noticed the dove’s presence.
Due to the dove’s nest, the yellow part of the traffic light will remain on with the lid open until the bird leaves. Drivers passing through the intersection were taken aback by the sight of a dove perched on the red light. Sait Gökçek, a pedestrian who noticed the nest while crossing the road, commented, “I have never seen anything like this before. It’s a pity that the traffic could potentially harm the bird. They should clean the nest after the bird leaves. It’s an extraordinary image.”
Mehmet Akif Can, a local resident living near Diclekent Boulevard, remarked on the bird’s nest, saying, “This is something very different that I have encountered in this area where I frequently travel, do sports, and walk. A bird has made a nest on the yellow light. It is a meaningful situation and a message regarding the destruction of nature. Human activities have destroyed their natural habitats, leaving animals with nowhere to nest.”
Can further emphasized the importance of taking care of animals, stating, “All animals need attention and care. The decreased number of trees and shrinking living spaces have played a significant role in animals struggling to find suitable nesting spots. I was surprised to see this situation unfolding. They also made a nest above the air conditioner on our balcony. These animals seek higher places to protect themselves from society and people. We must not destroy or harm them. Additionally, it is crucial to provide adequate food for not only birds but also street animals. Small nests should be made available for them, as they are in need.”
As pedestrians crossed the street, many drivers also noticed the dove’s nest, resulting in surprise and curiosity. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving nature and providing suitable habitats for animals. Bird nests are typically found in trees, but due to the lack of trees in certain locations, they struggle to find suitable nesting sites. Measures should be taken to ensure the protection and well-being of these animals in our urban environments.
