Çetin Arslan Elected as New Member of HSK
The Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bekir Bozdağ, announced that an election would be held at the General Assembly for 1 vacant membership in the HSK, from 3 candidates nominated among faculty members and lawyers working in the law branches of higher education institutions. Bozdağ read the list of candidates determined by the Joint Commission consisting of Members of the Constitution and Justice Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
In the secret first round of voting for HSK membership, 369 deputies participated. Prof. Dr. Çetin Arslan received 342 votes, Prof. Dr. Bayram Keskin received 22 votes, and Prof. Dr. Ender Ethem Atay received 3 votes, with 2 votes being deemed invalid. As the required majority could not be reached in the first round of voting, a second round was held. However, since the necessary majority was not reached in the second round of voting, members were elected by drawing between the two candidates who received the most votes.
In the draw drawn by Deputy Speaker Bekir Bozdağ, Prof. Dr. Çetin Arslan was elected as the new member of HSK. Bozdağ congratulated Arslan, wishing him good luck and success in his new role.
Prof. Dr. Çetin Arslan is a professor in the Department of Criminal and Criminal Procedure Law, with expertise in criminal and criminal procedure law, economic/commercial criminal law, tender law, and misdemeanor (administrative penalty) law. He was elected as a member of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) on January 31, 2024.
Following the election, it was decided not to convene the GNAT General Assembly on Tuesday, February 6, and the assembly was closed with plans to reconvene the following day at 14:00.
