
Dr. Çetin Arslan Elected as HSK Member at Turkish General Assembly

Professor Dr. Çetin Arslan Elected as Member of Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) in Turkey
The Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bekir Bozdağ, has announced that an election was held at the General Assembly for 1 vacant membership in the HSK. The election saw 3 candidates nominated among faculty members and lawyers working in the law branches of higher education institutions. Bozdağ read the list of candidates determined by the Joint Commission consisting of Members of the Constitution and Justice Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
In the first round of voting, Professor Dr. Çetin Arslan received 342 votes, Professor Dr. Bayram Keskin received 22 votes, and Professor Dr. Ender Ethem Atay received 3 votes. Two votes were deemed invalid, and the second round of voting was held after the 2/3 majority of 400 total members stipulated in the Constitution could not be reached. Since the required majority could not be reached in the second round of voting, members were elected by drawing between the two candidates who received the most votes.
In the draw drawn by the Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bekir Bozdağ, Professor Dr. Çetin Arslan was elected as the new member of HSK. Bozdağ congratulated Arslan and wished him good luck and success in his duty as the Presidential Council.
Professor Dr. Çetin Arslan is a professor in the Department of Criminal and Criminal Procedure Law, with expertise in criminal and criminal procedure law, economic/commercial criminal law, tender law, and misdemeanor (administrative penalty) law. He was elected as a member of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) on January 31, 2024.
With the recommendation of the Advisory Board, it was decided not to convene the GNAT General Assembly on Tuesday, February 6. Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bozdağ, closed the assembly to meet tomorrow at 14.00.
