Driver Sentenced to 4.5 Years in Jail for Leaving Dilara Bedridden
Accident Involving Unlicensed Driver Results in Serious Injury
An accident on December 31, 2021, in Erzene Mahallesi 10 Street involving an unlicensed driver resulted in serious injuries to two riders on a motorcycle. The driver of a light commercial vehicle with a licenseplate of 35 BAF 500, İsa Eyice, collided with a motorcycle bearing a license plate of 35 AUD 304, driven by Sude Solak (22). Solak was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, but Dilara Aldanoğlu, who was riding passenger, was not. Both were thrown from the motorcycle upon impact. Aldanoğlu suffered serious injuries including brain trauma and bleeding and was hospitalized for 7.5 months before being discharged and continuing her recovery at home.
Eyice was detained and sent to court after the accident, but later released on condition of judicial control. An indictment has since been prepared against him for injuries sustained by Aldanoğlu and Solak. The indictment demanded a prison sentence of up to 4.5 years for ‘injuring more than one person by conscious negligence’. Eyice was found to be at fault in the accident according to a traffic expert report, and also exceeded the alcohol limit of 0.20 on his license.
Aldanoğlu’s family’s lawyer, Gökay Başar, expressed dissatisfaction with the potential sentence, stating that Eyice should be held responsible for his actions resulting in Aldanoğlu’s extended hospitalization. The trial is ongoing without possible incidental injury.
