Drivers Endangering Children’s Lives Don’t Belong on the Road

Authorities Crack Down on Reckless School Bus Drivers in Turkey
In a recent statement shared on social media, Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya condemned reckless driving behaviors by school service drivers, emphasizing their critical role in ensuring child safety. "No service driver playing with the life of our children has a place in traffic," he declared.
The remarks come after two school service drivers in Esenyurt were identified for endangering lives by operating unsafe vehicles. Utilizing "virtual traffic patrols," the Ministry of Interior successfully caught these negligent drivers.
Yerlikaya provided details on the repercussions faced by these drivers: their licenses were revoked, their vehicles banned from operating, and their route permissions temporarily canceled. Legal proceedings against both drivers were initiated, and they have collectively been fined 44,232 Turkish lira.
Emphasizing the gravity of adhering to traffic regulations, Minister Yerlikaya stated, "Every driver who gets behind the wheel must strictly comply with traffic rules. Service drivers, entrusted with the safety of our children, must be particularly vigilant to avoid even the slightest mistakes."
The Ministry’s proactive measures reflect a commitment to enhancing road safety, particularly for vulnerable populations like children. The harsh penalties serve as a warning to all drivers about the importance of responsible driving behavior.
