Since the introduction of new driver’s documents on January 1, 2016, a staggering 31,643,355 applications for license renewals have already been submitted. However, approximately 4,237,000 individuals still possess the outdated licenses. As these licenses will be deemed invalid starting August 1, 2025, it is crucial for holders to act promptly.
Fee Structure
Until July 31, 2025, the renewal fee for the old license is just £15. However, starting August 1, this fee will rise dramatically to £7,438 for Class B licenses. The government encourages citizens to renew their licenses within the next three months to fully benefit from the lower fees and avoid unnecessary costs.

Drivers can renew their licenses easily by making an appointment through one of the following methods:

The new licenses will be printed by the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs and sent directly to the applicants’ addresses via PTT. In the interim, a temporary driver’s license can be issued through the Population Directorates or obtained via E-Government services.
