Drought payments scheduled for December 30 – BRTK

The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Cyprus has announced that drought account closure payments will be available for collection from the Turkish Cypriot Cooperative Central Bank on Monday, December 30.

According to the ministry’s statement, the Account Closing amount of Drought Compensations for the 2023-2024 Production Year has been transferred to the Cooperative Central Bank, and payments will commence on December 30. This initiative aims to provide relief to 1,840 producers across 96 villages who were affected by drought, with a total compensation amount of 78.3 million TL for an area of 218,932 decares.

The General Agricultural Insurance Fund Detection and Evaluation Committee conducted field inspections during the harvest period, focusing on crops such as grain, fodder, and edible legumes. These assessments were combined with official rainfall data from the Meteorology Department to determine the extent of damages and compensate the affected farmers accordingly.

The Ministry emphasized its commitment to supporting agricultural production through transparent, solution-oriented, and producer-friendly policies, especially in light of rising production input costs. With a dedication to ensuring the continuity of production, the Ministry aims to mitigate the impact of natural disasters like drought on the agricultural sector in Cyprus.
