Drunk Driver Faces 9-Year Sentence in Fatal Motorcycle Courier Accident

The Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has determined the punishment requested for Can Karaoğul, who was involved in a fatal accident while driving drunk. The investigation into the accident has been completed, and an expert report has been included in the indictment prepared by the Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the expert report, it was determined that the driver, Can Karaoğul, was completely at fault for the accident. The indictment stated that the suspect had a blood alcohol level of 2.37 promil at the time of the incident.
The indictment emphasized that Karaoğul caused the accident while driving under the influence of alcohol and exhibited 4 faulty behaviors according to the Highway Traffic Law. It was also mentioned that the driver continued his actions with the belief that he could prevent the accident in case of a collision.
The Prosecutor’s Office has requested a sentence of 2 years, 8 months to 9 years in prison for the crime of “causing death by conscious negligence” for Can Karaoğul. The suspect is set to appear before the judge in the coming days to face these charges.
The tragic accident occurred on the Üsküdar D-100 Highway Altunizade location, where a jeep driven by Karaoğul collided with a motorcycle traveling in the same direction. The impact of the collision caused the motorcycle driver, Mustafa Gül, to be dragged for meters, resulting in his death at the scene.
Following the accident, Karaoğul was detained and later arrested by the court, where he was then sent to prison pending further legal proceedings.
As the case progresses, it serves as a sobering reminder of the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and the importance of responsible behavior on the road. The outcome of the trial will hopefully bring some closure to the family and loved ones of the victim, Mustafa Gül.
