Dual Vocational Education Program Yields Revealing Results

EU, UNDP and SAVE Share Results of Dual Education Programme in Azerbaijan

Baku, July 18 – The European Union (EU), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the State Agency on Vocational Education (SAVE) recently held a final event to showcase the outcomes of the dual education programme for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The event, organized under the “VET for the Future” project, saw the participation of over 40 private companies, graduates and mentors of the dual programme, vocational education and training institution managers, and official representatives from the EU, UNDP, and SAVE.

The dual education programme allows students to simultaneously pursue their studies at vocational education and training (VET) institutions while gaining practical experience at private sector companies. By working closely with mentors in a real work environment, students acquire the necessary skills demanded by the labor market, complementing their theoretical knowledge acquired at VET centers.

This programme not only helps vocational centers stay attuned to market requirements but also enables them to make relevant changes in educational content. Moreover, the dual approach allows enterprises to develop their potential workforce with fewer resources while forging new partnerships through various networks in the education and private sector domains.

Since 2021, the project has collaborated with 32 companies in providing dual/work-based learning opportunities. Over 126 mentors from the private sector have been involved in the process, spanning 24 different vocations, including tourism and hospitality, transport, furniture manufacturing, and media. With the project’s support, a total of 573 students from cities such as Baku, Ganja, Jalilabad, Lankaran, and Sheki have participated in the programme, and more than 70% of the graduates have received official job offers from the companies they completed their practice time with.

The successful implementation of the dual education programme highlights the commitment of the EU, UNDP, and SAVE to strengthen vocational education in Azerbaijan and bridge the gap between education and the requirements of the labor market. By providing students with practical skills and job opportunities, this initiative is paving the way for a prosperous future for the country’s workforce.
