Earthquake in Manisa prompts warning from Naci Görür
Following a nighttime earthquake in Manisa, both AFAD and the Kandilli Observatory have released statements regarding the event. The earthquake, which occurred around 01.36, was reported to have a magnitude of 4.8 by AFAD, with a depth of 10.24 km, while the Kandilli Observatory reported a depth of 12.7 km.
The tremors were felt not only in Manisa but also in neighboring provinces such as Izmir, Aydın, and Balıkesir. In response to the earthquake, experts have issued warnings and advice to the public.
Professor Dr. Şükrü Ersoy emphasized the seismic activity in Western Anatolia, stating that while 4.8 may not seem significant, it holds potential for causing damage due to the lack of recent earthquakes in the region. He also noted that earthquakes with magnitudes over 5.5 generally result in significant damage in Turkey, making the 4.8 magnitude earthquake a cause for concern.
Furthermore, Professor Dr. Naci Görür highlighted that the earthquake took place in the north of the Soma-Kırkağaç Fault zone, advising people to stay away from damaged buildings for their safety.
