Turkish Salmon Exports Reach Record Numbers

The Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey has seen a significant increase in salmon exports, with 24,103 tons of Turkish salmon being shipped to 21 countries. This has resulted in a total income of $144,600,557 from these exports. Compared to the previous year, there has been a remarkable 68 percent increase in quantity and a 41 percent increase in value.

Saffet Kalyoncu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association, highlighted the Russian Federation as the leading destination for Turkish salmon exports. In the past 11 months, exports to Russia, Vietnam, and Belarus have been the highest, with a total of $100,713,349 worth of exports going to Russia, $29,711,976 to Vietnam, and $5,293,549 to Belarus.

Trabzon, a city in the region, has been a major contributor to the increase in exports, accounting for $96,126,333 of the overall exports. Kalyoncu noted that Trabzon alone exported 15,807 tons of salmon to 12 countries, particularly Russia, Vietnam, and Japan. This represents a significant jump from the previous year, with a 106 percent increase in quantity and a 69 percent increase in value.

Turkish salmon has proven to be a crucial export for the region and the country as a whole. Kalyoncu expressed optimism about the possibility of further increasing exports by the end of the year. With such promising numbers, the future looks bright for Turkish salmon exports.
