Eastern Kazakhstan Plans Construction of Hydroelectric Power Plant
A 16-megawatt hydroelectric power plant is set to be constructed in the Markakol district of Eastern Kazakhstan, as announced by Nurlan Ramazanov, the head of the energy and housing and public utilities department of the East Kazakhstan Region. This new facility, situated on the Kalzhyr River, will be the fifth hydroelectric project in the region focused on promoting green energy initiatives.
The construction of this plant is expected to significantly contribute to the region’s energy security, particularly during flood periods when it will be able to supply sufficient energy to the entire Markakol district. Furthermore, the plant’s output will be integrated into Kazakhstan’s unified energy system, further enhancing the country’s energy infrastructure.
The rights to build and operate the hydroelectric power plant were awarded to Kalzhyr River Energy LLC through a competitive auction process. The company is mandated to complete the project within five years, with a projected completion date set for 2030. This initiative aligns with Kazakhstan’s broader strategy for developing green energy sources and reducing reliance on traditional energy sources. Additionally, the project is expected to create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region.
