EDB Unveiling Concept for Eurasian Transport Network in Almaty

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) is taking steps to improve connectivity across Eurasia with the development of the Eurasian Transport Network. This initiative aims to boost economic development, trade, and mobility in the region, according to a recent report from the bank.

The concept for the Eurasian Transport Network will be unveiled at the EDB Business Forum, which is set to take place on June 27–28 in Almaty. The network consists of international transport corridors and routes spanning over 50,000 kilometers. In 2023, key corridors like the Northern, Central, and Southern Eurasian Corridors, TRACECA, and the International North–South Transport Corridor, carried a significant amount of freight and containers in international traffic.

The EDB, which introduced the notion of the Eurasian Transport Network in 2021, will present a detailed concept that emphasizes the synergy and complementarity of the different corridors. The report highlights 10 key elements, including addressing transport challenges in Central Asia, enhancing intra-regional connectivity, and tapping into the region’s agro-industrial potential through new logistics and specialized rolling stock.

Furthermore, the report explores promising transport infrastructure projects and initiatives, along with opportunities for cooperation between countries and multilateral development banks to implement them. The goal of the Eurasian Transport Network is to facilitate smoother and more efficient transportation across Eurasia, ultimately driving economic growth and integration in the region.
