Effects of US Tariffs on World Trade Organization Rules in Russia

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova held a weekly press conference in Moscow, addressing various issues on the agenda. Zakharova mentioned that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will be attending the Antalya Diplomatic Forum (ADF) and will potentially discuss the Ukrainian crisis with foreign counterparts. However, the details of any potential meeting with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine are still being prepared.
Zakharova also criticized the United States for its unilateral tariff protectionism, stating that their decisions on tariffs disrupt the World Trade Organization’s rules and show a lack of adherence to international commercial law. She also touched on the ongoing tariff war between the US and China.
Furthermore, Zakharova raised concerns about a Russian Foreign Ministry employee being detained at the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport in France on April 6. She mentioned that France’s Ambassador to Moscow was summoned and handed a protest note regarding the incident, emphasizing that Russia will not leave such actions unanswered.
Addressing the issue of foreign military presence in Ukraine, Zakharova stated that regardless of the flag and duty, any foreign military assets in Ukraine would be considered a threat to Russia’s security and could lead to potential conflicts with NATO soldiers. She also criticized Ukraine for continuing attacks on Russian energy infrastructure facilities despite an agreement reached with the United States on the matter.
Zakharova noted that the Russian army abides by the agreement to refrain from attacking energy facilities, which was negotiated following a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in March. This agreement aimed to halt attacks on energy infrastructure facilities in both Russia and Ukraine.
As tensions continue to rise in the region, Russia remains vigilant in protecting its security interests and advocating for peaceful resolutions to conflicts in Ukraine.
