Efforts to Protect Atyrau Region from Floods and Humanitarian Relief in Kazakhstan

Kazakh Prime Minister Assigns Atyrau Region’s Administration to Protect City from Flood Waters

During a meeting on April 29, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov instructed the Atyrau Region’s administration to take measures to protect the city and surrounding areas from approaching flood waters. The Zhaiyk River water level is rising daily, prompting the need for immediate action, as reported by the Prime Minister’s press service.

The Prime Minister highlighted the successful efforts in the West Kazakhstan Region, where intensive work has been carried out to safeguard the area from high water. The flood situation in the region has stabilized, with 84 settlements being spared from flooding and minimal consequences from the floods.

Bektenov also mentioned that the water levels in the rivers of the East Kazakhstan Region are currently below critical levels, and the situation in the North Kazakhstan Region is stabilizing.

As part of the relief efforts, over 13,000 families have received financial assistance, and payments for dead livestock have been made. Additionally, funds have been allocated for the repair of houses affected by the floods.

In a heartwarming display of solidarity, Kazakhstan’s universities have extended their support to the West Kazakhstan Region’s flood victims. Humanitarian aid has been delivered, food and necessities have been sent, and temporary shelter has been provided to those in need.

Furthermore, following President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s directive, prominent Kazakh businessmen Kairat Itemgenov and Almas Mynbayev have generously contributed to the Qazaqstan Halqyna Fund for flood relief efforts. Their substantial donations, along with contributions from other individuals and organizations, have helped raise significant amounts for assistance to the flood victims.

The efforts to support those affected by the floods continue, with companies like Coca-Cola also stepping in to provide aid to the victims. It is heartening to see the community come together to help those in need during this challenging time.
