Ekrem İmamoğlu Participates in Test Drive of Electric Metrobus
Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu recently participated in the test drive of a 40-meter-long, 4-wagon, 420-passenger capacity, 100 percent electric metrobus. The test drive took place with İETT General Manager İrfan Demet and Metro Istanbul General Manager Özgür Soy by his side. The journey started from Edirnekapı IETT Garage in Eyüpsultan and ended at Avcılar Campus Stop.
Before the test drive, İmamoğlu stated, “Our main wish is for the metrobus line to serve our people with efficiency, comfort, and reduced passenger congestion. The metrobus is an important means of transportation in Istanbul, with a daily capacity of over a million passengers. We are currently building new metro lines along this route. We need to make the right decisions on the number of vehicles that will provide efficient service in the short, medium, and long term. This electric metrobus has a high passenger capacity, zero emissions, and we will evaluate its performance to make informed decisions.”
Reflecting on past transportation challenges, İmamoğlu expressed optimism about the future, stating, “Previously, there were many issues with incompatible vehicles that were purchased for public transportation. We want to invest our nation’s money wisely and provide quality transportation services to the people of Istanbul.”
İETT General Manager İrfan Demet provided technical details about the electric metrobus, highlighting its capacity of 420 passengers and environmentally friendly features. He emphasized that the vehicle is electric, zero-emission, and can be used autonomously, without the need for a driver.
The test drive of the electric metrobus signals a commitment to sustainable and efficient public transportation in Istanbul. With investments in modern technology and environmentally friendly options, the city aims to improve the commuting experience for residents and reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuel-powered vehicles.
