El-Sen Conducts Warning Strike at Kib-Tek Nicosia Regional Chief-BRTK Facility Branch

The Turkish Cypriot Electricity Institution’s Union (al-Sen) announced a three-hour warning strike at the Nicosia Regional Chief of the Facility Branch section of the Turkish Cypriot Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK). Union officials held a press release during the strike, calling for the resolution of issues faced by the public service.

Al-Sen President Ahmet Tuğcu highlighted the problems in the Facility Branch section serving 47 villages in the Nicosia and Gönyeli regions. He criticized the pressure on personnel, unauthorized employment of temporary workers and technicians, and lack of investments in maintenance and materials. Tuğcu emphasized the need for solutions through dialogue rather than strike actions.

Secretary General Hüseyin Peksever raised concerns about the insufficient number of personnel and investments in KIB-TEK, affecting services provided to 230 thousand subscribers. He pointed out violations of collective bargaining agreements by the administration, leading to unrest among workers.

Both officials called for a meeting with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy and Energy to address the issues faced by KIB-TEK employees. They stressed the importance of ensuring quality energy services for the public and urged for a collaborative approach to find solutions.
