Election Day Weather Forecast: What to Expect?

Turkey’s General Directorate of Meteorology has released its latest weather forecast for Sunday, May 14, which is also the day Turkey goes to the polls for the Presidential and Parliamentary elections. The forecast indicates that temperatures will be around seasonal norms throughout the country. A rainy system will still be affecting certain areas of Eastern Anatolia and Eastern Black Sea, but it will gradually move away from the country on Sunday. Elsewhere, partly cloudy and sunny conditions will prevail.
Temperatures are expected to reach around 23 degrees Celsius in Ankara, 19 degrees Celsius in Samsun, 21 degrees Celsius in Istanbul, 24 degrees Celsius in Izmir, 29 degrees Celsius in Adana and 25 degrees Celsius in Diyarbakir. This forecast will be welcomed by millions of Turkish voters who will be heading to polling stations across the country to cast their votes. The weather on election day always plays an important role in voter turnout and this forecast could help to boost voter numbers.
The elections are expected to be a closely fought battle with President Erdogan seeking to secure another term in office. A total of eight candidates have been announced, but the contest is widely seen as being between President Erdogan and Muharrem Ince, the candidate for the main opposition Republican People’s Party. Opinion polls suggest that President Erdogan is likely to win the election, but the margin of victory is uncertain.
Despite a number of logistical challenges and a highly charged political atmosphere, the country is gearing up for the elections. The latest weather forecast will provide some relief for voters and campaigners who will need to navigate long queues and potentially difficult conditions to have their say in the democratic process. With just a few days remaining, the spotlight is now firmly on Turkey as it prepares to hold what could be one of the most significant elections in recent history.
