
Elena Rybakina Triumphs at Brisbane International, Defeats No. 2 Player

Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina Wins Brisbane International, Becomes World No. 3
Kazakhstan’s top seed Elena Rybakina secured a decisive victory at the Brisbane International on Jan. 7, defeating world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus with a final score of 6-0, 6-3, as reported by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
Rybakina expressed her thoughts on the match as she received the Evonne Goolagong Cawley Trophy from former world No. 3 Wendy Turnbull, acknowledging the challenge her opponent presented despite the clear lead.
“We always push each other, and I think that is great. We improve this way, so hopefully, we continue,” said Rybakina.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev additionally congratulated Rybakina, who is the 2022 Wimbledon champion, on her confident victory at the prestigious tournament in Australia and wished her future sporting achievements.
As a result of her recent win, Rybakina will now be ranked world No. 3. She has also been awarded the unique title of Baker of the Week for Week 1 of the 2024 WTA season, in recognition of being the player who won the most sets with a score of 6-0/6-1 during that week.
In other tennis news, Kazakh tennis player Anna Danilina saw an impressive rise of ten places in the WTA doubles ranking, reaching 44th, after her triumph at the WTA 250 ASB Classic Auckland tournament in New Zealand. Danilina, partnered with Viktória Hrunčáková from Slovakia, emerged victorious over the American-Czech pair Bethanie Mattek-Sands/Marie Bouzková in the final.
The achievements of Rybakina and Danilina are shining examples of Kazakhstan’s growing presence in the international tennis scene, and they serve as inspirations to aspiring young athletes in the country.
