Elon Musk Announces Headquarters Move from California to Texas
In a recent post on Twitter, Elon Musk announced that SpaceX’s headquarters will be relocating from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas. Musk cited a new law passed in California as one of the reasons behind this decision, particularly pointing out the law that prohibits schools from notifying parents of students’ gender reassignment requests.
Describing the law as “the last straw,” Musk explained that the move was also influenced by other laws that have been enacted in California. Additionally, he mentioned that X’s headquarters will also be moving to Austin, Texas, and indicated that many others may follow suit.
The California law, signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, aims to prevent schools from requiring parents to be notified of students’ requests to change gender or use new pronouns. This decision has sparked controversy, especially considering Musk’s past comments about transgender individuals.
Despite his own daughter legally changing her name and gender identity, expressing a desire to distance herself from her biological father, Musk has faced criticism for his handling of transgender issues. Musk previously removed X’s rules preventing users from being deliberately misgendered, only to reinstate them later on.
The relocation of SpaceX and X headquarters will impact thousands of employees, as both companies require employees to work in office settings. Musk’s insistence on employees returning to the office after SpaceX was acquired in 2022 further emphasizes the significance of this decision.
