Emergency ECMO Connection: Doctors’ Last-Minute Update

Deputy Chairman of the Parliament and Dem Party Istanbul deputy Sirrı Süreyya Önder underwent a 12-hour operation after a tear in his aortic vessel was discovered. The surgery took place at 23:30, and following the intensive care unit, a written statement was released from the hospital regarding his condition.
In the statement, it was revealed that Mr. Sırrı Süreyya Önder was brought to the hospital by 112 ambulance teams at 15:04, accompanied by pulse, intubation, and heart-lung massage. Emergency services were immediately provided, and it was determined that he had a tear in the aorta and the descending aorta, resulting in a rhythm disorder.
During the surgery, which lasted close to twelve hours, coronary by-pass and aortic valve replacement procedures were performed. Unfortunately, the right half of his heart was unable to contract due to the damage caused by the tear in the aorta. Despite the completion of the grafting and anastomosis processes, the danger to his life was still present.
After the operation, Mr. Önder was taken to the intensive care unit with the support of an ECMO (Heart Circulation Support Device). The hospital informed that the danger to his life was ongoing and that updates would be provided as necessary.
The road to recovery for Sirrı Süreyya Önder may be long and challenging, but he is receiving the best possible care to ensure his well-being. Our thoughts are with him during this difficult time, and we hope for his speedy recovery.
