Israeli Army Strikes Hezbollah Targets in Lebanon, US Prepares for Further Action
In an official statement released by the Israeli army this morning, it was confirmed that Hezbollah targets in Lebanon were targeted during the night. The Israeli army stated that they conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in the southern region of the country in response to rocket attacks carried out by the militias.
Furthermore, in a separate development, the United States conducted airstrikes on Iranian militia groups in Syria early on Friday using warplanes. This action comes as part of the US’s efforts to deter and counter threats posed by Iranian-linked groups. The US government also announced its readiness to take additional measures against such groups in the future.
President Joe Biden, who authorized the attack in Syria, marking the first such military action since the Israel-Hamas conflict began, indicated that further steps would be taken as deemed necessary.
In light of the escalating security situation, the Washington administration issued a statement this morning urging all US citizens in Lebanon to evacuate immediately. The US Embassy in Beirut shared a message from the State Department via the X platform, emphasizing the unpredictable security conditions and the need for the immediate departure of American citizens in Lebanon.
Notably, the embassy statement highlighted that in case of a crisis, the evacuation of US citizens living in Lebanon and their families cannot be guaranteed.
Since the outbreak of the war on October 7, the United States has firmly supported Israel and deployed the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, alongside other warships, to the Eastern Mediterranean region.
The Washington Post, a prominent US newspaper, reported earlier this week that the US was preparing for the worst-case scenario, with plans in place for possible evacuation operations that may involve aircraft carriers and other ships to safely transport hundreds of thousands of Americans residing in the Middle East.
According to estimates from the US State Department, approximately 600,000 American citizens currently live in Israel, while 86,000 American citizens reside in Lebanon.
