Emergency Evacuation – Land Shift in Üsküdar Forces Residents Out

A landslide incident occurred in the Küplüce neighborhood on Atlas Flower Street at around 11:00 pm. The incident took place in the garden of two 4-story buildings for unknown reasons. The land mass that collapsed was previously used as a quarry in the area. Residents of the building notified the authorities, and the police, firefighters, AFAD, and police teams were dispatched to the scene.

Upon investigation, it was determined that 9 apartments in the two buildings were affected, and as a precautionary measure, the entrance floors, which housed 3 shops, were sealed off. Some residents of the evacuated buildings stayed with relatives for the night, while others were accommodated in nearby hotels.

One resident, Ömer Faruk Düztaş, shared his experience, stating, “The incident occurred around 11:00 pm, and we were awakened by a loud noise. After about 10-15 minutes, we heard another noise and realized that a landslide had occurred. Municipal teams arrived at the scene, and we were evacuated from the building.”

Authorities are continuing to assess the situation and ensure the safety of the area. As investigations unfold, residents are urged to cooperate with officials and follow any safety measures put in place.
