Hollywood stars Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo have been filming a new movie titled “Poor Things” in Hungary. The surreal science-fiction romantic comedy directed by Yorgos Lanthimos is based on the 1992 novel by Alasdair Gray and follows the story of a young woman who is resurrected by an unorthodox scientist and lives a life free of prejudices. The ensemble cast also includes Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott, Margaret Qualley, and Kathryn Hunter. The movie addresses social issues such as gender equality and liberty and is set to be released in theaters on 8 September 2023. The movie was shot in various locations in Hungary, including castles, and Ruffalo even tweeted about Hungary’s politics before the parliamentary elections, urging voters to choose freedom, hope, inclusion, and peace.
