Employers Oppose New Minimum Wage, Commission to Reconvene – BRTK

The Turkish Cypriot Employers’ Union Objects to Newly Determined Minimum Wage
Last week, the minimum wage in Turkey was determined to be net 35 thousand 180 TL and gross 40 thousand 436 TL per month. However, the Turkish Cypriot Employers’ Union, representing the employer side, has raised objections to this decision.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the Minimum Wage Determination Commission will convene after the 10-day objection period ends tomorrow to discuss the objections raised by the employer side.
During a meeting last Wednesday where the new minimum wage was decided, the employer side was notably absent. They cited concerns that the minimum wage level would negatively impact their competitiveness, stating that a higher minimum wage would completely eliminate their ability to compete in the market.
It remains to be seen how the Ministry of Labor and Social Security will address these objections and whether any changes will be made to the recently determined minimum wage in Turkey. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
