Enchanting Bridge to Connect Hungary and Slovakia
The Szent Korona híd (St. Crown Bridge) is set to become a magnificent new addition connecting Slovakia and Hungary, with a focus on pedestrians and cyclists. Recent consultative talks have revealed plans for this bridge over the Ipoly River, as reported by ma7.sk.
With the opening of several new bridges over the Ipoly River in recent months, there are now forty border crossings linking the two countries, as noted by 24.hu. The most recent addition is a bridge between Drégelypalánk and Ipolyhídvég, which will greatly benefit border communities.
The construction of the Szent Korona híd is the vision of Károly Pászti, the second choirmaster of the Szent Korona Choir in Ipolybalog. The aim is to enhance cultural, economic, and national cooperation between the two municipalities and countries through a new transport route. Planning for the project began in January 2022, with a conciliation meeting held at the Ministry of Construction and Transport in March 2024.
The bridge will connect the main square of Ipolyvece and the Chapel Hill (Kápolnadomb) in Ipolybalog via a built cycle path. Guardhouses will be constructed on each of the two pillars of the bridge, creating a unique and practical infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists alike. The Szent Korona híd is poised to further strengthen the bond between Slovakia and Hungary while offering a scenic and functional route for those traveling on foot or by bike.
