Enchanting Musical and Dance Performance at the Hollókő Easter Festival
The Hollókő Easter Festival is set to welcome visitors with a range of exciting activities, including folklore programs, traditional Palóc gastronomy, the revival of local traditions, and the customary Easter sprinkling. This four-day event will also feature concerts, family activities, and children’s programs in the picturesque UNESCO World Heritage village of Hollókő, located in Nógrád County, North-Hungary.
On Good Friday, all programs will be free of charge, with activities such as a craft fair, egg painting, and screenings of archive photos and old Hollókő films. Visitors can also learn about traditional local fasting customs at the Visitor Center.
Holy Saturday will feature gastronomic and folk heritage programs in the courtyards of the Old Village, including traditional wooden clapper noisemaking and depictions of rural life. The Nógrád Dance Ensemble will teach folk dances, while the Nógrád Folk Dance Group will entertain with traditional round dances and scenes in folk costumes. Visitors can also learn how to make plum dumplings with tradition keepers from Kétbodony.
Easter Sunday will kick off with a morning mass followed by the resurrection procession. Guests will be welcome with sprinkling at the church and lower well, accompanied by performances from the Nógrád Dance Ensemble, Fonó Folk Dance Ensemble, and the FOLT Band. Visitors can also enjoy listening to folk tales by John Bukovich, The Palóc Storyteller at the Guzsalyas Costume Exhibition.
On Sunday and Monday, additional programs will be held at the Pajtaárok stage, including music and dance workshops and concerts. In the evening, there will be a sprinkling dance house at the Dr. Román András Visitor House with the Dűvő Band and the Nógrád Dance Ensemble.
On Monday, following Easter mass, visitors can partake in the “Great Easter Sprinkling” in the Old Village, accompanied by more music and dance performances. The event is free for children under seven years old and individuals with disabilities, with discounted tickets available for companions.
The Hollókő Easter Festival and Hollókő Old Village can only be accessed with an official event ticket, which must be purchased from Saturday to Monday. The ticket includes admission to all programs and certain attractions in the village.
