Iranian Presidential Election Voting Period Extended to 18 Hours
The voting period in the Iranian presidential election was extended for a total of 18 hours, ending at midnight instead of the original 18:00 deadline. Mohsin Islami, Spokesperson of the Election Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Iran, announced that the doors of the election centers were closed at 24:00, with only those inside allowed to continue voting.
Candidates in the election include reformist Masoud Pezeshkian, conservative candidates Mohammad Baqer Qalbaf, Said Jalili, and Mustafa Purmuhammedi. However, Tehran Mayor Ali Reza Zakani and Emir Hossein Qadizadehashimi withdrew their candidacy before the election to support unity within the conservative wing.
To be elected in the first round, candidates must receive 50% +1 of the vote. If no candidate surpasses this threshold, the top two candidates will advance to a second round on July 5. The final results of the election are expected to be announced before noon tomorrow, with initial data set to be released at midnight.
