Energy Minister says Oil in Gabar will meet 12% of Turkey’s needs.
Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Dönmez, has announced that the country has found a significant oil reserve in the Gabar region. The discovery was made after working in difficult geographical conditions, with roads being prepared for trucks and drilling activities being undertaken. Dönmez said that the new oil field has production capacity of 100,000 barrels per day, with a gross reserve of one billion barrels. The minister believes that the field has the potential to meet 12% of the country’s oil needs and can be processed in existing refineries in Turkey, including a refinery in Kırıkkale. He also said that changes to taxation could reflect the financial benefits of domestic oil to users. The reserve may lead to new discoveries, and Turkey is making use of both oil and gas resources on the road to energy independence.
