England Unveils Largest Sanction Package Against Russia in Decades

The UK Imposes New Sanctions on Russia to Weaken Military Power and Support Ukraine
In a recent announcement from the British Foreign Ministry, it was revealed that new sanctions have been imposed on Russia targeting its financial resources supporting the economy of war, pro-Kremlin oligarchs, and the Russian army’s supply chains.
The statement highlighted that over 100 new sanctions against Russia have been put in place with the goal of weakening the country’s military power and bolstering Ukraine’s position for peace.
As part of the sanctions, companies in third countries providing electronic and dual-use materials to the Russian army, senior figures allegedly sending troops from North Korea to Russia, and 13 Russian organizations allegedly transferring European technology to Russia were targeted.
Furthermore, the sanctions are aimed at reducing Russia’s energy revenues, a vital financial source for the country. The UK has sanctioned a total of 133 Russian oil tankers, with over 40 more Russian oil ships added to the list.
The sanctions also include targeting 14 oligarchs closely linked to the Kremlin, including Russia’s richest businessman Roman Trotsenko. Additionally, for the first time, Russia’s foreign financial institutions supporting the war economy, such as Kyrgyzstan-based OJSC Keremet Bank, have been included in the sanctions.
British Foreign Minister David Lammy emphasized that the UK will continue to support Ukraine, with the sanctions aiming to weaken Russia’s war capacity and enhance Europe’s security. Lammy stated, “We reaffirm our commitment to Ukraine with the largest package of sanctions in the last 3 years. Every military supply line cut, every ruble blocked, and every aggression from Putin is a step towards achieving fair and lasting peace, security, and prosperity in the UK.”
Highlighting the importance of strength in achieving permanent peace, Lammy stressed, “This is why we are focused on positioning Ukraine as powerfully as possible. The world is witnessing Putin’s full-scale occupation of Ukraine, and in their struggle for our collective security, we will not turn our backs and we will not retreat.”
